Borinquen · Last updated August 9, 2026
Borinquen (“the app”) is a bilingual guide to Puerto Rico. This policy explains what
information the app collects and how it is used. We keep it simple: we collect only what the
app needs to work, we don’t show ads, and we don’t track you.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account you provide an email
address, a password, and a name. If you use “Sign in with Apple,” Apple provides your name
and an email (which may be a private relay address). This is used only to sign you in and
save your account.
- AI planner content. When you use the “Plan with AI” feature, the
messages you type and your trip details are sent to our server to generate an itinerary.
This content is processed to answer your request and is not used to advertise to you or
build a profile.
- Your itinerary. Activities you add to the Vacation Planner are stored
locally on your device and are not uploaded to us — unless you choose to
send a trip to a friend (see “Content you share” below).
- Profile information (optional). If you set up a profile you can add a
username, a display name, a short bio, a longer “story,” and a profile photo. These are
stored on our servers so the app can show them — see “Content you share” for who can see
what.
- Location — on your device only. The Boricua Passport can check your
location, with your permission, when you tap “Stamp my location.” The check happens
entirely on your device, against map boundaries that ship inside the app:
your location is never sent to us or to anyone else, and the app never
reads it in the background. What is saved is only the stamp itself — the town’s name and
the date you first visited — kept on your device and in your own iCloud (so your passport
survives a lost or new phone). Stamps are never uploaded to our servers.
Content you share
- Your profile. Your username, display name, bio, story and photo can be
seen by other Borinquen users — for example when someone finds you by searching your exact
username or follows your invite link. Search works only by username; nobody can look you up
by email address.
- Friends. Friend requests and your friend list are stored on our servers
so both sides see the same thing. You can decline requests, remove friends, and block or
report a user from their profile.
- Shared itineraries. If you send a trip to an accepted friend, a
read-only copy of that itinerary is stored on our servers so they can view it. Either of
you can delete it at any time.
- Place reviews. Reviews (text, star rating, optional photos) are public
once approved. Every review is checked by a human moderator before it appears.
- Quiz leaderboard. If you post a quiz score, the nickname you type and
your score appear on a public leaderboard (in the app and on this website). Nicknames are
filtered, and anyone can report a name for removal.
How your information is used
Solely to provide the app: to authenticate your account, deliver encyclopedia content, and
generate AI trip plans at your request. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for
advertising or cross-app tracking.
Service providers
We rely on a few trusted services to run the app:
- Supabase — hosts accounts and the app’s content.
- Anthropic — processes the text you send to the “Plan with AI” feature
to generate a response.
- Apple — provides Sign in with Apple and processes in-app purchases.
These providers process data only to perform their function for the app.
News
The News screen shows earthquake and weather alerts from the USGS and the National Weather
Service (public government feeds) and headlines from Puerto Rico news outlets. Tapping a
headline opens the publisher’s own website. The app only fetches these public feeds — it sends
them nothing about you.
Data retention & deletion
Your account data is kept while your account exists. You can permanently delete your account
and all associated data — your profile and profile photo, friendships, shared itineraries, and
your reviews and review photos — at any time directly in the app: tap My
Profile at the top of the home screen, scroll to the bottom and tap
Delete Account, then confirm. This immediately and permanently removes your
account and its data from our servers and cannot be undone. If you have any trouble, you can
also contact us at the email below. Your locally-stored itinerary can be removed at any time by
deleting it in the app or deleting the app. Passport stamps live only on your device and in
your own iCloud — remove them by deleting the app and its iCloud data in
Settings → iCloud.
Children
Borinquen is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
